Review :

What's Good :-

It's Bala film where the characterizations gets the true life events on larger screen. The first half is engaging with characters narration and the crucial plot of the story is revealed by the end of Interval. Sasikumar, Varalaxmi and RK Suresh are true performers for their well itched roles. Second half is just marked up with the proceedings of the first half. Ilayaraja's music work is the backbone for entire narration and thus the Bala blend worked out.

What's Bad :-

Second half which has began with right juncture of first half goes logic less after minutes in to the film. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's role has been let down in this half and heroic characters were given to villain RK Suresh. Sasikumar just bends to the situation with out any revolt. Pace in this half is boring to hard time. Climax has dragged to a big extent.

Movie Review :-  Story :-

Story of Tharai Thappatai begins with the life of Pulavar Samy (G.M.Kumar) and son Sannaasi (Sasikumar) who runs a dance-music troupe called Tharai Thappattai in which  Sooravali (Varalakshmi  Sarathkumar) is an main attraction to the trouple who will be seen as dancer all the way.

Sooravali is an alcholic and behaves like a tom-boy. Karuppaiah (R.K. Suresh) who is fan of Sooravali's fan sends an marriage proposal to her with the mediation of Sannasi .As Karuppaiah is a well-settled guy, Sannasi makes Sooravali get married to him. Rest of the story is how Sooravali outbusts from the cruel hands of Karuppaiah and how she ends meeting Sannasi forms the crux.

Movie Review :-  Script Analysis :-

Bala should be applauded for making such an true art film with all commercial elements. The narration in the first half is simply superb with hard hitting true life characters of Tamil Nadu Folk artists and how they are ended to fill their stomach in a real way. But the screenplay in the second half is itched with weak work on the characters and the total film is based on Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. Climax cane be said a bloodshed and a torture work like earlier Bala's film.

Movie Review :- Technical Analysis :-

The major asset of the film is its background score by Maestro Ilayaraja and once again proved that he is master of re-recording. The songs are simply superb on big screens. Cinematography is neat and dialogues are good at parts. Editing could be crisp. Bala's script work and direction is good. Production Values are rich.

Verdict : Tharai Thappatai is complete entertainer for Bala fans and others it is just a watchable film.
