GV Prakash Support Towards Farmers
Updated on : 17 August 2017

GV Prakash had issued a statement on the Independence Day yesterday. He asks is there is any justice in celebrating Independence Day without giving solution to the farmers’ issues. His statement is as below.

“For the past 6 months Tamil Nadu farmers are protesting for their livelihood. They are protesting wearing a piece of cloth. Most of them are senior citizens who say nothing is with them expect their lives. As per the latest report from National Crime Branch, Tamil Nadu is in 3rd place in suicide death. Particularly in the year 2015 alone 604 farmers had killed themselves. These are a shameful acts in 70 years of our independence.

On the other hand, 45 villages in Nagapattinam and Cuddalore district had been announced as the petroleum, Chemical and Petro-chemical region. It is said in about 23,000 hectares of land will be occupied for petroleum related organization with the investment of 92,000 crores. If this project is carried out then at least 57,345 acres of farming land from farmers will be purposely handed out to those oil companies.

If this happens, several lakh acres farming lands surrounding these lands will also be affected. Tamil Nadu farmers are facing several issues including Methane, Hydrocarbon and drought. All these big issue might be solved in the initial stage but now it has been grown up as huge issue. The end product we are enjoying now but it is sure that we will let our children to face huge problems without food and water.

It is not good for us to stay aside in this matter. Farmers are protesting not only for their families they have left their lives for the food for all of us. If these things did not affect us then what else will be affecting. All groups of people should consider this series issue and talk about this. I request not only cine industry people but all people in various industries should take serious concern over this. I request government to drop the projects that are against the people.”
