When actors met for a cause
Updated on : 23 April 2018

The members of South Indian Artistes’ Association, popularly known as the Nadigar Sangam, met over the weekend to discuss ways to regulate the remuneration of artistes and also other issues plaguing the industry.

A source in the know tells us, “Earlier, the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TNPC), Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and Nadigar Sangam used to function separately. Now, they are looking to link the outfits so that industry-related issues can be sorted out easily. At this meeting, all the members of the Nadigar Sangam met to discuss remuneration issue. Earlier, there was no clarity on how much business a film did. But from June, theatres will give out the transparency details. So, artistes have been advised to fix their remuneration in such a way that they don’t become a burden on the producers. Not insisting on booking flight tickets for all the assistants, not attending a shoot without an agreement, which will be submitted to the Council so that NOC can be issued to FEFSI, and paying the Council or the Sangam if artistes are invited for commercial award functions — these were some of the issues that were discussed at the meeting. Once the proposal is submitted, there will be another meeting to finalise the details.”
