A travel back to the times of celebrated highwayman, Robinhood and the God’s own country has imparted irresistible excitements across audience of every generation. For an entity Kayamkulam Kochunni, who has journeyed across centuries and ages through folklores and books, it’s not just the Malayalam territories, but everyone beyond its boundaries too are curiously waiting to experience the tale on big screens as the movie featuring Nivin Pauly, Priya Anand, Priyanka and Mohanlal hits screens on October 11.
With countless assumptions and predictions about how the tale of Kayamkulam Kochunni, Nivin Pauly clarifies saying, “This is going to be Rosshan Andrrews’ version of Kayamkulam Kochunni. The film is purely based on the folklores and books that we have come across the centuries and decades about this highway man. The film traverse through the journey of an ordinary man who transforms into Robinhood as the urge to help his people and villagers arises. Yes, Kayamkulam Kochunni is a fictional film with ingredients of love, action, friendship, social and betrayal.”
As the story is set against the backdrops of 1830s, where the realms of Kayamkulam Kochunni are told to have been in occurrence, Nivin Pauly said that he encountered a never-seen-before pre-production for this film. He says, “Of course, it was herculean efforts from Rosshan Andrrews sir and producer Gokulam Gopalan sir, who had a mutual understanding for them. Or else, it would have not been a possibility to have Kayamkulam Kochunni in celluloid now. We had to collect certain photographs of Kayamkulam and do a complete search of how the market places, Kochunni Veedu (House), the Kallari training premise, prison and villages would look. After an intense research, miniatures for every set work had to be created, which indeed had a huge budget. But the firmness of producers to deliver a perfect package made us proceed with it. Writers Bobby and Sanjay had given their heart and soul into the research, detailing and fictional presentation.”
On sharing the screen space with the great Lalettan (Mohanlal), Nivin Pauly says, “What else can I say? It wasn’t just a dream come true, but those moments were enlightening to me as I learnt the discipline, his congenial nature, perfectionist gestures and tried inheriting his nuances in performances too. The role of Ithikera Pakki that Mohanlal sir plays is a larger-than-life character, about which I shouldn’t reveal much. It is something that audience must come to theatres and relish themselves with.”
The charming handsome actor also remains in high praises over his co-stars Priya Anand, Priyanka, Sunny Wayne, Babu Antony and others, where he opines every character will add its best intensity to the film.
